Birds!!
Somehow we managed to capture the nest and tie them up on the backseat of Alicia's car. We used a combination of rope and the car's seat belts. Also loads of duct tape, so much tape. We made some measures to avoid the nest cutting themselves. Nobody wants a car full of loose birds.
Once I was in my seat I realized I had a lot of questions. So the Fear's are real? Apparently? I have no other way to explain what happened. Either that or I'm going insane. The latter option seems more likely. Alicia's bird related wounds are pretty solid evidence of the former however.
So I turned to Alicia who had just gotten in the driver’s seat. “What the hell was that?”
“The Convocation. They're the Fear the Nests worship and serve.” She said as she put on her seat belt.
“Why didn't you warn me?!”
“I did. I told you to look out for birds that acted strangely.” She said calmly as she leaned over and opened the glove compartment.
“I thought you meant fake bird drones or something, not this!”
“Would you have believed me if I did?” She took out a roll of bandages and a scissor.
“I don't know! Maybe, you should have told me the Fears were real. Why didn't you?”
“Knowledge of the Fears is dangerous. It seems to attract them and I wanted to protect you from that. Also, if your blog is anything to go by there's no way you would have believed me.” She explained while she bandaged up a wound on her arm.
“...YOU READ MY BLOG?!”
She stopped bandaging herself and turned to look at me. “It wasn't very hard to find.”
“That's.. But..You..Oh god, You read my blog.. Does that mean you.. oh god, Did you?..you didn't...?”
“Yes, I read the part about your crush. Please calm down.” I felt her hand on my shoulder trying to calm me down. It only made it worse.
“Oh no, no, no, no, no...” I could feel my face heat up.
While I was shaking and melting into a shame puddle there was a sudden thud on the roof of the car. Then another and another, a crow landed on the hood of the car. Behind us the nest was struggling, our arguing had woken them up. Now a whole flock of birds was attacking the car.
“Fuck!” Alicia hurried to put the key in the ignition and tried to start the car. It refused.
One of the birds pecked the window and cracked it. The car was completely swarmed.
I screamed.
Then suddenly the car started and Alicia hit the gas pedal. The sudden start made most of the birds slide off the car. We could still hear some of them on the roof. We didn't get rid of them until we reached the highway.
They're still following us though. I can see them up in the sky. It will be a while before we reach the archive.
I'm scared.
It is very awkward. I've been trying to forget. Please don't remind me.
ReplyDeleteAt least you didn't write anything super compromising just admitted your crush. Could have been worse. Much much worse.
