Scribe Delta

Alicia decided to take the deal. She didn't want to do it at first. I asked her why and she said that Nests are extremely dangerous. Normally she avoids them whenever she can. I asked what Nests even are and why they're so dangerous.

She said they're another cult. This one worships bird gods. Which to me seems far less threatening than a god of death or diseases. I'm also surprised at just how many of these secret cults there are. That's four of them so far. As for why they're so dangerous Alicia said they're always in flocks.

“We just need the one though right? If we can separate him from the others it shouldn't be that hard.” I said.

“..That's not... Look, it's not that easy.” She said while rubbing the temple of her nose. She seemed to have trouble thinking of a reply to that. I'm starting to think there might be something she doesn't want tell me.

“Look, if you really don't want to do this that's okay. You've already done a lot for me. I'm sure we can find another way to find my mother.”

She sighed. “Have you heard anything on your blog yet?”

I shook my head. “Still not a single comment.”

She frowned. “Then I'm afraid this is the only way. Guess we're going to catch a nest.” She said before starting up the car and driving towards the Archive.

When we arrived they were already waiting for us. We went back into that small office with the smiling sun poster. Scribe Delta smiled at us and said: “I assume that your visit today means you'll be accepting our offer?”

There was a short silence before Alicia answered. “Yes, where is this nest?”

“Wonderful!” Scribe Delta almost jumped up in their seat from excitement. “Before I give you the boring details though. I'll pay you half up front. With information of course. After all this might be useful in your hunt.”

They then opened a drawer in their desk and pulled out a folder. They opened the folder and put a paper on the desk in front of us. “Recognize the symbol?”

It was the same octopus symbol we had seen on the timberwolves files. “Yes.” Alicia nodded.

“Great! For a while I was worried that you might have meant another octopus symbol. That would have been awkward.” They laughed and scratched their head.

Then it became awkward anyway because of another long silence. We all looked at each other, waiting for someone to break the silence.

Scribe Delta was the one that eventually broke it.“That symbol belongs to an organization called KRAKEN. They've only recently made their presence public. However they've been around for a very long time. We've been watching their activities for the last 80 years now. Their announcement was somewhat of a failure. However the mere fact that they decided to announce their existence means they are about to put their final plans into motion.”

“What plans?” Alicia asked while taking a closer look at the document on the desk.

“Ah right! KRAKEN is made up of all kinds of servants. Timberwolves, Oathbreakers, Nests, Puppets, Sine Corda and even Archivists unfortunately. We're certainly not proud of that fact. There are probably even more servant groups involved, we just seem to have issues getting that information.”

“Because there's members of KRAKEN inside the Archive making sure you don't get that information?” Alicia guessed.

“Correct!”

“You still haven't told us what their plans are.”

“Don't worry I was getting to that point. All that we know is that they wish for a world where the Fears openly rule humanity. So their main goal is to destroy the masquerade that keeps the Fears a secret from the general public. After they do that they figure the Humans would try to fight the Fears. Which would be a war humans have no chance of winning.”

“Then the Fears would have to suppress humanity and we would become their slaves. Why would anyone want that?” Alicia shook her head.

“From the information we have it seems they think humans have failed at ruling the world.”

“They actually think the Fears would do a better job? What the fuck.”

Scribe Delta shrugged at this. “Unfortunately, we do not have details on how they want to do accomplish their goal. We only know they're doing it soon and Dr. Slager is involved.”

“Dr. Slager is the guy that took Catrien's mother right?”

“Yes. This might seem obvious but he's an oathbreaker.”

“Right.”

“We have more information on him but you'll get that when you bring us the Nest. Any other questions?”

I had been silent for a while but I had a lot of questions. First of which was: “Umm, yes, I've been listening all this time but I've been meaning to ask... What's a Fear?”

But before my question could be answered there was a loud sound outside. Then the door flew open and the other Librarian came rushing in in a panic. “It's KRAKEN! They're trying break in through the front door.”

  1. I've been too busy to really pay much attention to people, but I'm a bundle of nerves about my next fight and thought I'd calm down by looking at the misfortune of others... Then I found this blog. I must say your misfortune is lovely and doing wonders to calm my nerves, however I also wanted to perhaps be helpful. Since you may have been quite helpful to me in more ways than just a calming bit of schadenfreude... I've had some minor run ins with KRAKEN in the past and so I might be able to help you... See from my experience I've learned something about them...

They suck... Like really badly. I've killed 2 of them so far... Well 2 and a half possibly and I guess technically I only killed one of them myself, but they are not hard to kill and I'm pretty sure the one I killed might have been one of their only competent members so there's that.

Of course there's always the possibility that you suck even more... Either way I'll enjoy seeing how things go. Yours The Faceless Bastard.

P.S. Alicia sounds pretty hot. You have good taste... Should probably be careful not to let her read your blog and read about your crush though. I bet the scribe is just dying to tell her about it.

    1. Next fight? What are you a wrestler or something?

I'm not sure how to feel about you saying they're easy to kill. On the one hand it makes me feel less afraid of them. On the other hand now I'm afraid of you..

Oh no, I hadn't even thought about her possible reading my blog. Oh no, no no no.
