Hello, old friend
The nest was still tied up and looking up at Scribe Delta.
“So it is you. Wait, Sam, you're not with KRAKEN are you?”
“No, old friend I'm not and my sources say that you aren't either anymore.”
The nest let out a sigh of relief. “Thank fuck. Yeah, I got out.”
“Wait, They’re not KRAKEN?!” I yelled out in surprise.
Sam put up a hand at me. “Not now, I'm busy.”
“Oh.. okay.” I stepped back and looked at Alicia. She shrugged.
Sam turned his attention back to the nest. “So old friend, at what point did you realize being in KRAKEN might have been a bad idea?”
“Around the time I saw another KRAKEN nest be eaten alive by the birds he had just released. Turns out the Bright Ones do not like KRAKEN. So when KRAKEN announced its presence a few months ago there were many nests who were up for a nasty surprise.”
“Ouch. Yeah, that'll do it. Any idea why the birds don't like the octopus?”
“If I had to guess they don't like the idea of us taking orders from other servants.”
“Right, a hive mind might not like that. Imagine your fingers taking orders from somebody else.”
The nest nodded. “So you gonna undo these ropes? Right now I'd like to be able to give orders to my fingers to scratch my nose. It's been itching for about half an hour now.”
“I'll get to that but first I have to ask some questions those two want answered.” They pointed at me and Alicia.
The nest shook their head “I can't answer anything. KRAKEN will kill me.”
Sam shrugged. “To me it looks like they're already trying to kill you for leaving them. What are they gonna do, kill you twice?”
“Point taken.” They sighed. “Alright, shoot.”
“Dr. Slager's plan and his last known location.”
“That fucking mad asshole, huh? What do you want with him?” The nest turned their head towards me and Alicia.
“I..uh..My-” Before I could answer I was interrupted by Sam slapping the nest across the face.
“You're talking to me, not them.”
“You really didn't need to do that.” They glared at Sam.
“You're right, I probably didn't.” Sam laughed. “Answer the questions though.”
The nest rolled their eyes and sighed. “Alright, alright. Dr. Slager is one sick son of a bitch. Doing all kinds of fucked up experiments. I don't know the details of his plans. Just the bits and pieces I've heard. From what I've heard he plans to make some sort of super virus. With it he plans to tear down the veil somehow. That's all I know. I stayed far away as possible from that maniac. Even though he was technically my boss for a while.”
“Thank you, and his location?”
The nest then told us where the location of Dr. Slager's latest lab had been. I promised to not reveal this information on this blog. Just like how I promised to not mention any details on the nest. Hopefully this'll be enough to leave KRAKEN in the dark about how much we know.
“Alright, that's everything we needed.” Sam got back up and turned towards us. “There you have it. That's the information you payed for. With that our deal is concluded.” They smiled.
“Got it.” Alicia nodded and started to head for the exit.
But I couldn't contain my curiosity. “Hey wait, how do you two know each other?”
“More information requires more payment.” Sam grinned.
“O-oh..”
“Fucking hell Sam, you greedy bastard.” The nest interrupted
“I was kidding, obviously.” Sam waved their hand and laughed.
“You and me both know that's bullshit Sam. You were fully intending to charge the poor girl.”
“..Maybe.” Sam laughed some more. “Fine. I won't charge.” They said as they knelt back down and started untying the rope on the nest.
“Which means Sam won't be answering at all. Alright, as an apology for trying to kill you earlier I'll answer that question instead.” The moment they got their arm out of the rope they started scratching their nose. Turns out they were serious about the itch.
“Me and Sam used to be runners together. Then stuff happened and I became a nest. So we parted ways. The full story is much longer and full of drama. But your friend seems to be getting into her car without you. So that's all you'll be getting.” They pointed outside where Alicia was doing exactly that. So I ran out of the library after her.
Ha Alicia just ditching you... I like her. Also... It gives me no end of satisfaction imagining a bunch of Nests who are also Kraken members getting murdered by their own birds... I'm no fan of nests or Kraken so one could say that's like... Killing two birds with one stone :D
ReplyDeleteAlicia says the feeling isn't mutual. Also I feel like that last bit is a reference to something but I have no idea what.
DeleteAww... Alicia baby... Come on we can work this out. I'm sure we could be great friends.
