It just had to be a flamethrower
Just before we arrived I sent a message
to Scribe Delta saying we were on our way. So I wasn't surprised to
see them standing outside waiting for us. What surprised me was the
flamethrower strapped to their back.
Then again, at this point I should have
expected at least someone to show up with one of those. I blame you
commenters.
The car stopped in front of the Library
and Scribe Delta waved at us. “Get the nest inside! I'll handle the
birds!”
We got out of the car and opened the
back door. I got inside to unstrap the seat belts keeping the nest in
place. As soon as I did the nest began struggling and flopping
around. Which was all they could do since they were still tied up
with rope.
I tried grabbing their legs and helping
Alicia carry them out of the car. But their flopping around made me
lose my balance and I fell down. Outside there was a flash of light
and the sound of birds flying around in a panic.
I tried to get back on my feet but the
Nest wasn't making it easy. Scribe Delta yelled at us to hurry up.
Suddenly there was a crash and glass
everywhere. A bird had smashed through the window and was flapping
around in the car.
It was wounded by the glass so Alicia
managed to grab it by the wing and tossed it out of the car.
More flashes of light went off outside
as I managed to get on my feet. Alicia grabbed the nest and began
pulling them out of the car.
The nest struggled so hard that they
fell off the backseat.
That's when I noticed something shiny
on the floor. “Alicia! Watch out! Your scissors!” I yelled a
warning.
Alicia had been using those scissors to
cut her bandages. She must have dropped them when we were attacked by
the birds. Now those scissors were dangerously close to the nest.
I bent down to grab them when I felt a
slash across my back. I let out a scream.
“Another bird got in! Get out of
there!” Alicia yelled.
Then the next thing I know I had the
scissors in my hand and a dead bird on the other end of them.
I threw the scissors on the front seat
and helped Alicia get the Nest out of the car.
We ran into the Library while Scribe
Delta was putting birds on fire. They seemed to be enjoying it a bit
too much.
They ran in after us and the other
librarian, Linda, closed the door behind us.
We put the nest down on the floor. I
could still feel where the bird had clawed at me. It was not pleasant
at all. It still isn't, to be honest.
Scribe Delta took off their
flamethrower and set it down in the corner. They then walked over to
the Nest. “You two did a great job! Now please excuse me for a bit
while I get the information you need out of our friend here.”
They then knelt down next to the nest
and ripped the duct tape off their mouth. The nest screamed. Then
they glared up at Scribe Delta and yelled. “What the hell do you
think... wait, Sam is that you!?”
Scribe Delta grinned at them. “Hello,
old friend.”
Ooh the plot thickens. Also it's a good thing the birds didn't try and nuke the area with lightning. I imagine there were reasons they didn't, maybe they actually do care about that nest for some reason. Either way you're lucky you got away with only a cut.
