Mother

Somehow we did it. We saved my mother.

As for Alicia, my mother recognized her symptoms and has managed to stabilize her. She's no longer in critical condition. She hasn't woken up yet though. Which makes me nervous. My mother told me she would wake up eventually. I'm afraid that's just her trying to comfort me.

Speaking of my mother, I had a very long talk with her. I told her about everything that happened and she told me about what she went through. She also told me why she was kidnapped.

It turns out that my mother does not work for doctors without borders. She lied about that but her real job is apparently not so different. She is a doctor, that wasn't a lie. She does travel a lot to treat people, that was true as well. However the people she treats are victims of the Fears.

My mother has known about their existence since before I was born. With the experience she has gained over the decades she has become an expert on Eldritch diseases. So she mostly deals with Plague doctor victims. Sometimes the Intrusion as well.

It was her expertise that got her noticed by KRAKEN. They kidnapped her so she could assist Dr. Slager in his experiments. According to her he had been trying to make an eldritch plague. Based on samples from the plague doctor's diseases and EAT's campers. Somehow combining them to form a deadly plague that would bring humanity to the brink of extinction. Forcing the Fears to intervene and rule over the surviving humans.

Which explains the Camper we saw and probably why EAT helped us. Turns out that Dr. Slager was having difficulties making the germ transmittable to other people. Which is a good thing obviously. Because Alicia had an early strain of it. KRAKEN oathbreakers have been testing out the new plague by smearing a gel on their weapons. The gel contains an early prototype of the new plague which worked very slow. This is what saved Alicia. That and my mother already knowing exactly what had infected her.

My mother doesn't work alone. Remember that message I had so much trouble figuring out? She explained it to me.

“Nrgl.'s Wolf on trail. Need Cage. C V Grey/ 1-BLS-165”

I had already figured out that Wolf was Timberwolf. The last part was Car Van Grey and the license plate. The rest was a mystery. To be honest I had forgotten all about it.

Nrgl was short for Nergal. Which is a name she used for the Archangel. So the Archangels wolf.

Then there was “Need Cage”. Which was her asking for the Rabbi to contact the organization she works for, which is named ENCAGE. Apparently the Rabbi knew about them but wasn't allowed to tell me.

ENCAGE is an organization of people who were once family or friends of people targeted by the Fears. They try to protect people like them. Knowing they don't stand a chance against the Fears themselves they focus on containing the collateral damage as much as possible.

Which brings me to where I am right now. I'm inside one of the ENCAGE bases. For the first time in months I've actually had a warm meal. As for my father, ENCAGE has lawyers who are going to do their best to get him out of Jail. However I still haven't seen him. There is hope for him now. So for now that'll have to do. All I can do is wait.

Which is also all I can do for Alicia. She is in another nearby room. At least until she wakes up. She's a runner so my mother told me she can't stay here. Runners are considered too dangerous because they attract the Fears. So the rules say they can't keep runners around for long. Which I'm not accepting. I don't care what they say. Alicia saved me and I'm not letting them just kick her out.

Hold on, my mother just came in the room. Alicia woke up. I uh be back

Edit:

So yes, she's awake.

Okay, she's eating right now. Needs to build up her strength.

Sorry a bit flustered. I should explain.

When I walked into the room she waved at me. I rushed over and hugged her.

“Oww fuck, Leaf. Watch it, stitches.”

“Ah!, sorry.” I let go so fast I almost fell over. Alicia caught my hand in time and kept me on my feet.

She laughed. “Oww, laughing hurts too. Damn it.”

“Oh no, I'm sorry!”

“Leaf, it's okay. I'm used to worse pain. You saved me. Well your mother did but you're the one who brought me to her and stuff. Thank you.”

I could feel tears welling up in my eyes. “I was so scared.”

She smiled, still holding my hand. “So your mother told me I'm no longer infected.”

I nodded. Our eyes were locked on each other.

“Which.. Leaf come closer I have to whisper something to you.”

I nodded again and leaned closer.

I felt her hand on my cheek. Then not even a second later she pressed her lips against mine. For what seemed like an eternity, we kissed.

We were interrupted by a nurse bringing Alicia her food. I had to leave the room to let her eat. Which is why I'm here again now.

Alicia kissed me. My face is still warm. I'm probably blushing like crazy. She kissed me. I can't. Sorry I need to compose myself.

So I started this blog to find my mother. Which we did and that probably should mean the end of this blog. I'll probably hang around, leave comments and stuff but this blog is done. I was going to write a more coherent and heartfelt ending but then things happened. She kissed me. I can't stop smiling. Okay, that's enough of that Leaf.

So, yes. Goodbye everyone.

~Leaf~

  1. Aww... Everything worked out for the best. At least for now. One thing I've learned there are no happy endings. Enjoy it while it lasts.
